CALL FOR PLAYS / 100 Minutes 2009
Painted Filly Theatre will stage “ten new plays about now” as part of its fourth annual 100 MINUTES production in Dublin. Submissions are open to all. Each play should meet
the following criteria:
1) It is no more than ten minutes in duration
2) It requires no more than ten bodies to stage
3) It is possible to stage with minimal technical budget
4) It is “about now” — i.e. it speaks to the current political or cultural moment
Painted Filly Theatre welcomes ten-minute plays which include formal innovations.
In 2009 submissions involving music, dance/physical theatre, and performance art
will be considered along with more traditionally defined dramatic texts.
Submissions should be made electronically in .PDF or .DOC format to
info@paintedfilly.com. A jury will shortlist and select ten plays in January of 2009.
REVIEWS & IMAGES / The Common Will
Painted Filly Theatre and Hungry Ghost Theatre were delighted with the success of The Common Will, which was staged during the Dublin Fringe Festival 2008 in Bewleys Cafe Theatre. This one-man show, written and performed by Phil Kingston and directed by Nick Johnson, received positive feedback from audiences and critics alike, and was nominated for the Bewley's Cafe Theatre Award (best show under 60 minutes). Read some of those reviews here: [Irish Independent] and [Irish Times]. You can also see images from the production courtesy of photographer Zoltan Barothi here.

100 Minutes 2009: Dublin Calling
WRITERS: Will this year be the year that you finally work that definitely crazy, possibly brilliant theatrical idea into a ten-minute script format and submit it? Will it be the year that you pass on our 2009 Call for Plays to the genius you just know needs to get a break? We would like to think so. 100 Minutes 2009 promises to be our most adventurous offering yet. The deadline for writer submissions has been extended to 15 December 2008.
ACTORS: Will this be the year that Painted Filly Theatre auditions over 100 actors for the ten-member ensemble? Will this be your lucky year to be one of the ten? We are still seeking new talent and flexible, brilliant actors. Start preparing contrasting one-minute monologues, and wait for the announcement of audition dates in 2009.
AUDIENCES: Will this be the year that you make it out to city centre to see ten new plays about now? Will this be the year that you try your hand at the diabolical Painted Filly Pub Quiz, or purchase a minute to sponsor new theatre in Dublin and new writing around the world? We'll keep you posted...
